How to Book Last Minute Spanish Golf Holidays

Because there are hundreds of golf resorts in Spain, many of which are found in or near the Costa del Sol region, finding last minute golf holidays to Spain is entirely possible. With that being said, you can spend far more than you should if you are shopping at the last minute, so keep these tips in mind.

Call the Resort

One of the first things you should do if you are looking to book a last minute trip is call the resort you want to visit. They may have a deal on the rooms that have not yet sold, because they will lose money if the room does not have someone in it. The closer you are to your travel date, the better this tactic will work, so go ahead and try.

Shop Online

Visit your favorite online travel site to see what deals are available. Shop several of these sites so that you will get a feel for what types of discounts are available. Do not buy tickets until you are sure that they are listed at a fair price, because some websites will capitalize on the fact that you are shopping last minute and raise the price because they know you will be desperate.

Be Flexible

The best way to save money on a last minute trip is to be flexible. Your favorite resort may be full or close to it, and if this is the case any available rooms will be high priced. But, if you are willing to stay at a different resort, you might find that it has several vacancies and is willing to discount the price of the room so that it will have someone in it. The same is true for the golf courses you are considering. You likely have some courses you favor or really wish to try, but if they are very busy in the weeks you will be visiting, you will not be able to find discounted rates. You will also not have your pick of tee times, so flexibility is a must.

Contact a Travel Agent

If you have called the resort and shopped online and not found what you are looking for, consider talking to a travel agent. These professionals know exactly how to find the hard-to-find tickets and rooms. Be sure you tell them the details of what you are looking for in your trip so that your lodging is near the area where you intend to play the most golf. Keep in mind that you may pay slightly more to use a travel agent, but it may mean the difference between finding tickets and not finding tickets since you are shopping last minute.

Last minute tours and accommodations on the Costa del Sol are almost always available because the region is quite large and has dozens of resorts. While the region is quite popular, particularly when prestigious tournaments are in town, room is almost always available. If you are shopping for last minute travel deals, be sure to check what is available in this popular destination.

Plan Your Wedding Around a Costa del Sol Golf Holiday

Have you ever imagined getting married on the beach, surrounded by sand and beautiful blue waters, then Spain’s Costa del Sol region may be the ideal destination for your event? When it comes to golf holidays Costal del Sol is, by far, the premier destination throughout southern Europe. However, besides being a great place for a golf holiday, it is also an ideal place to get married.

Entertainment Is Available

When you plan a destination wedding, you need to know that your friends and family members who travel to your event will have something to do. This is not a problem in Costa del Sol. Here you have around 70 beautiful golf courses that the members of your wedding party can enjoy as you prepare for your event. Each course has its own unique layout, ambiance, and level of difficulty. This is especially helpful for the men who will be attending your wedding and may not be as interested in things like flowers and wedding cake.

Of course, golf is not just for the experienced golfers in the group. Many of the golf courses on the Costa del Sol have golf academies, practice fields, and short holes that are perfect for beginners. Even if people who are visiting your wedding are not golfers, they will enjoy the beautiful landscaping and Mediterranean views offered by these courses, and the game is fun even if you lack experience.

Pampering Is Luxurious

Imagine treating all the ladies in your wedding party to a luxury day at the spa. Almost every resort in Costa del Sol has a wellness spa. The day before your wedding you can be pampered along with your closest friends and family members, enjoying a luxurious massage and facial that will help you truly glow on your big day.

Excellent Accommodations

Another reason to consider Costa del Sol for your wedding is the fact that you will be surrounded by excellent accommodations. Since Costa del Sol is known as a golf holiday destination, most of the golf resorts are connected with luxury hotels. If you plan enough in advance, everyone who travels with you to enjoy your big day could book accommodations in the same resort, allowing you to enjoy one another’s company as you make preparations. Many of the resorts have wedding facilities as well. Of course, after your ceremony, you can enjoy your honeymoon without having to travel at all.

The people who come to your wedding will need to eat, and there is no shortage of fine dining options in Costa del Sol. From the resorts to the major cities like Malaga, you will find just about any type of cuisine you would wish. Several of the fine restaurants throughout the region cater, so you can have excellent food at your wedding as well.

If a beachside wedding is what you are imagining, yet you wish to take advantage of a luxury golf destination, you need to consider having your ceremony on Costa del Sol. You will enjoy the friendly atmosphere, beautiful views, and excellent golf courses of this popular golf holiday destination.

Golf Courses You Must Play in Spain

December 25th, 2008

If you are headed to Spain for a golf vacation, you may be headed to Costa del Sol. In fact, the best golf holidays Spain offers may be found in this region. However, there are some other courses you will want to see in Spain besides those found on Costa del Sol. If your travels are taking you elsewhere, be sure to check out these courses.

Courses at Alicante (Costa Brava)

If you are going to be traveling near Alicante, be sure to visit the Villaitana golf resort. This resort is home to two Jack Nicklaus designed courses, The Levante and The Poniente. The Levante course is the championship length course and features Nicklaus’s typical large fairways. It has a spectacular view of both the sea and the mountains. The Levante is a par 72 course. The Poniente is the more challenging of the two, rated at just par 62, and is perfect for the experienced golfer.

Another excellent course to check out is the Bonalba Golf Course. While this is a relatively new facility, it is nonetheless worthwhile to play. You will find that each hole is quite a unique challenge, and you will be required to take risks when you play. There are several water features in the course, adding beauty and challenge. The course does have wide fairways, so beginners will be able to enjoy the game alongside more experienced golfers.

Almeria Golf Courses

If your travels take you to Almeria, you will find several courses to enjoy. One popular course is the La Envia Golf and Country Club. Unlike other coastal courses, you will not battle the wind here, because La Envia sits tucked away near the mountains, which provide a nice shelter from the winds produced by the sea. You may wish to book your accommodations at this resort as well. The hotel is quite famous throughout Europe for its fine service, and the food is excellent at La Envia.

American golfers will want to check out the Desert Springs Indiana course. This Par 72 course conforms to all USGA standards, making it an excellent course to play. Like many other courses in the region, it offers wonderful views of the mountains. Desert Springs is the first desert course in the country, providing golfers with a nice change from the lush greens of the other Spanish courses. It was designed by Peter McEvoy, and is considered one of the most difficult courses in Spain. It is also known as one of the friendliest resorts in the country, with an accommodating staff that will make your experience even more enjoyable.

If you have been to Spain and toured the Costa del Sol, perhaps it is time to expand your horizons and enjoy a golf holiday somewhere else. These courses are just some of the over 300 scattered throughout the country. With that many courses to choose from, you can enjoy a completely different golf experience every time you visit Spain. It is time to get away from the beaten path and enjoy something new on your next Spanish golf holiday.

Golf on the Spanish Coast by Playing Along Spain’s Costa del Sol

Spain’s Costa del Sol area has often been called the “Costa del Golf,” and it is no wonder, since there are around 70 golf courses available to play in this region. Golfers who wish to experience the best golf holiday Spain can provide will want to book a two or three week vacation in this area. Even that may not be enough time to truly experience this area. When you are there, be sure to play a round or two on these popular courses.

Monte Mayor Golf Club – A Hidden Costa del Sol Jewel

Monte Mayor may be difficult to spot, because it is nestled in the Serrania de Ronda Mountains. This course, which utilizes the natural turns and hills of the mountain terrain, is one of the most challenging in the area, and the best golfers return over and over to play it. This 18-hole par 71 course has a natural beauty that is as inspiring as the challenging course is. Keep in mind that the first two holes are deceptively easy!

Los Arqueros – Fun for All Players

Many golf enthusiasts who visit the Costa del Sol do so with friends or family members who may not be as skilled as they are at the game. Los Arqueros is the perfect course for these groups. It is a beautiful course with mountain and sea views, a practice range, putting green, and luxurious club house, but it provides a unique challenge that is not too difficult for beginners, yet not too boring for experienced golfers. A spa, sauna, restaurant, and tennis courts provide entertainment when the game is over.

Doña Julia – The Challenge Changes Throughout the Course

Whether you want to experience challenging golf or the luxuries of a modern golf resort, Doña Julia is the destination you must choose. This resort features an 18-hole golf course designed by Antonio Garcia Garrido. It is a par 71 course that features long, difficult holes for the first nine, and gentler, friendlier holes on the back nine. Indigenous trees and rivers throughout the course make it even more challenging. When the game is over, golfers can unwind in the luxurious Club House, which is part of the Park Hyatt Casares Hotel.

Guadalmina – One of Spain’s Most Established Courses

Guadalmina offers golfers two different courses, the South Course and the North Course. Both have recently been renovated and offer a different level of challenge. The South Course is so challenging that its developers recommend only professionals play it. The North Course is a bit more manageable, but has many water hazards and a terrain that is not at all level. The facilities include trolleys, a golf academy, a club house, putting green, practice range, and spa facility.

These are just a few of the many courses available to play golf on the Costa del Sol. You will experience a different holiday each time you visit, because it would take many years to explore all of the courses in this region. If you have not yet visited these popular courses, be sure to schedule them for your next visit! They offer some of the best golf on the shores of the Costa del Sol.
